Stress Corrosion Cracking Inhibitor

Jet Fuel De-icersImagine the potential of bulk liquid storage free from troubles associated with tank, piping, or other component failures when ethanol and ethanol blends are stored and transferred.  Mechanical experts have identified stress corrosion cracking (SCC) as a failure mode linked to fuel grade ethanol transport and storage systems.  API Report 939D documents SCC related failures in mid-stream fuel ethanol distribution storage tanks, oil company storage and blending facilities (steel tanks, rack piping and components) including a pipeline segment.   These failures occurred in tank bottoms, lower shells and floating roofs as well as loading rack piping and in-line equipment.   SCC failure is characterized by significant crack branches propagating below the metal surface, making it difficult to detect before failure occurs.
